Functional testing (FCT) for Ensuring PCB Performance

Functional testing is the final step in the PCB manufacturing process, ensuring that the PCB operates correctly. Unlike tests that focus on individual components, functional tests evaluate the entire assembly.

We can perform functional testing using equipment supplied by the customer or, alternatively, we can design and build the necessary testing equipment based on the provided and thoroughly specified requirements.

Advanced 3D AOI Control for PCB assembly Quality

All processes are continuously developing, improving, and optimizing to enhance efficiency and quality within production network. The identification of best practices in quality control is achieved through testing.

The AOI is one of the most effective and vital steps in our PCB Assembly inspection process.

How AOI Enhances PCB Assembly Accuracy

Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) system utilises a camera to scan the PCB, collects images comparing the tested solder joints against parameters stored in a database. . Following image processing, the system identifies any defects on the PCB, allowing for reliable detection and correction of errors before proceeding to the next processing step. The AOI system is capable of detecting various issues, including incorrect polarity, excessive or insufficient solder, missing components, improper soldering, and deviations from the expected height profile of components, among others.

Features of our AOI System

  • Currently, Steiner Elektronik operates 2 AOI lines.

Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) with a KOH YOUNG ZENITH High Speed 3D AOI
Inspection speed 18.3~30.4 cm2/sec
Unique 8 Way Projection Technology for full 3D measurement based inspection
Detection of a wide range of defects including Missing, Offset, Rotation, Polarity, Upside down, OCV/OCR, Solder fillet, Biilboarding, Lifted Lead, Lifted Body, Tombstone, Bridging and more.
Full 3D Measurement capability with height accuracy of 1 µm
Inspection capacity for objects with maximum dimensions of 510 x 510 mm

In addition to AOI, we test the assembly boards using Functional testing and the in-circuit test (ICT). This comprehensive approach effectively protects both THT and SMD designs, guaranteeing a thorough inspection of your boards.

X-ray inspection

Incorporating X-ray inspection into our PCB assembly production offers numerous advantages, ensuring higher quality, efficiency, and reliability.

Our X-ray inspection allows for precise analysis of BGAs, FBGAs, and QFNs, ensuring defect detection and VOIDs analysis, with detailed reporting to guarantee the highest assembly quality and reliability.

Benefits of of PCB X-ray Inspection in Manufacturing

By integrating PCB X-ray inspection into our SMD assembly process, we ensure superior product quality. Here are the main benefits:

  • Exceptional Precision: Identify even the smallest defects with unmatched accuracy.
  • Enhanced Reliability: Maintain top-notch quality standards for your components.
  • Increased Efficiency: Speed up your inspection process and boost productivity.
  • Cost Savings: Minimize waste and rework by detecting issues early.
  • Support for High-Density PCBs: Essential for modern electronics with compact designs and fine-pitch components, where traditional inspection methods struggle to reach or detect defects.

Key features of our QUADRA 3 Pro from Nordson:

  • Ultra High-Resolution Imaging: The QUADRA 3 Pro delivers stunning 1.6 MP images, ensuring that even the smallest defects are visible. This high-quality imaging is achieved through our proprietary Onyx Detector technology, which provides superior clarity.
  • Innovative Dual Mode Tube Technology: Equipped with the maintenance-free Quadra NT tube, the QUADRA 3 Pro features dual mode capabilities. This allows for seamless switching between High Resolution Mode for sensitive samples and High-Flux Mode for denser materials, ensuring optimal performance across various applications.
  • Versatile Applications: Ideal for PCB inspection, the QUADRA 3 Pro excels in detecting defects as small as 0.75 µm, making it perfect for applications involving BGAs, QFNs, solder joints, and counterfeit component detection

In-circuit test (ICT) by REINHARDT for component verification

In-Circuit Testing (ICT) can be applied to a diverse range of PCB designs. Using a needle adapter, we measure the input and output signals of individual components, allowing us to verify shorts, opens, and component values.

ICT tests each component individually, ensuring that it is correctly positioned and meets the required product specifications, industry standards, and functionality.

Other PCB assembly tests

We offer testing services for complex and highly integrated assemblies across various industrial applications, including programming.

  • In-House Production: We manufacture our own testers and needle adapters.
  • Testing capacity – We can test PCBAs with a maximum size of 450 x 405 mm.
  • Advanced Color Measurement – Our full-spectrum color meter, the C-700, provides precise measurements for LED, HMI, fluorescent sources, modern plasma lamps, tungsten lamps, natural light, and electronic flash. Its high-resolution measuring system, equipped with a CMOS sensor, captures and displays fluctuations in light source output, ensuring exceptional color measurement accuracy.
  • Range: Ambient light: 1 to 200,000lx=0.09 to 18,600fc Flash Light: 20 to 20,500lx・s
  • Component Height Measurement – We utilise the MAHR Marcator 1088 for precise measurement of component heights and Hall sensors, achieving an accuracy of 0.001 mm.

Programming & Debugging for reliable performance

IC programming refers to the process of loading firmware, software code or configuration data into programmable integrated circuits (ICs) like microcontrollers, FPGAs, and various memory devices.

  • Pre-Assembly and Onboard Programming: We perform programming and debugging of all types of microcontrollers and memory devices using technical standards such as ISP, JTAG, aWire, PDI, TPI, SWD, and others.
  • Custom Socket Production: We manufacture and supply specific sockets (adapters) for various housing types.
  • Development of Connection Solutions: We develop, implement, and operate specialized connecting solutions that ensure fast and reliable connections with programming devices.
